AS CALM AS THE SEA

       It was about the evening of the fifth day after the call from the police, while I was looking at the calmed sea as someone who looks across a split between her fingers, when you cover your eyes not to see a terror scene.

—Too much distance between the blurred horizon line and the eyes that look at it —said the ticket collector.

It amazes me now when I think of it. Those words shocked my obsessive and sickly world.

—I’m sorry to tell you that it seems your husband’s death was an accident —said the policeman.

I smiled and gave him the ticket. I couldn’t say I was sorry.
